OTWAY FORUM MEETING No. 290 May
8thApologies Stephen Hart
- Project Control Group for AB harbour redevelopment first meeting May 30th in Colac.
COS to request $10.75m from Federal government, during the election campaign, for stage one of new public infrastructure at the harbour.
This would include -
$150,000 over 2 years to support the private investment Expression of Interest process. (Shops and health and well being facilities including a pool?)
New internal promenade, sea wall and harbour management compound.
Expanded boat ramp and parking.
Realignment of harbour entrance road and walking trails.
New sailing club facilities.
What about permanent toilets and change rooms?
Finally is someone listening to what the AB community has found acceptable for the last 25 years?? !!!
See the Grahame Bentley plan on this Forum website for what this scale of redevelopment would look like (minus shops and pool but with a restaurant/café and aboriginal and fishing industry focus).
Good luck getting a commitment from either party in the next 6 weeks in such a small voting catchment as AB !!
- Thanks to Sarah Henderson for announcing $5m for passing bays on the Skenes Ck. to Forrest Rd. as well as a total of $25m for GOR upgrades.
- McLachlan St pedestrian crossing progressing. Hopefully Pascoe St crossing near Bowls club will be next.
- State budget announced $222m for river health projects including fencing out livestock and revegetation.
Could this lead to a walking track from town to the Heathfield public reserve?
A great project for the green army to be involved in!!
- Also $11m over 4 years for Parks Vic, infrastructure and $6m for threatened species conservation.
- Further erosion along all beaches, the river mouth and walking track due to increasing frequency of storm surges and sea level rise from climate change.
- Latest readings from Cape Grim NW Tasmania show highest readings of atmospheric CO2 on record.
- Recently dated 1000 year old aboriginal middens also sadly continuing to erode away.
- Mariners Vue 130 lot subdivision moving through the planning process. Documentation available at shire offices.
- Beware of telephone scams. Contact Telstra to block nuisance calls.
